Diamonds Are Girl’s Bestie

Crafts have been a part of my life since I was very young as my mom, my great aunt Marie, both my grandmas, and my maternal grandpa loved doing them often. They’d vary from sewing to crocheting to woodwork to painting. I’d watch them in awe til I was old enough to try out which ones I may enjoy. Meanwhile I stuck to coloring books as my first step into creative world but staying inside the lines never was my thing with those things.

Eventually I found crafts I favored after trying the ones I could actually realistically do. The main one was painting these figures and ornaments made of resin1 and using acrylic paints. I would spend hours each day carefully brushing on the paint across the surface of it determined not to make a mistake. Of course the small details were always my nemeses as it seems like the paint has a mind of its own. I not do them anymore for couple decades now as I’ve had cats that I didn’t want to accidentally get paint on plus it just feels like I have less room where I live. Sewing and crochet brought out so much frustration in me. I did embroidery for awhile where I poked my fingers a ton with the needle. Ah the fun nostalgia moments. It was enjoyable and relaxing to do but I stopped doing it for reasons that I can’t remember. I most likely unable to do that craft again with way my fingers get.

Alright so to the title of this blog after I have given a backstory on hobbies and crafts related to me. I had been in a Discord server lurking as I kind of tend to do when I saw someone mention that they were trying to finish up a diamond painting which stoked my curiosity. I immediately opened browser to search up what it was and it hooked me right away. Next I knew I was in Amazon looking for diamond art kits, adding them to a new wish list, finding tools needed for it, and going all out crazy on getting into this new hobby. The first kit I got was a cute highland cow that took me about 2 months to complete as I decided to do a second one of a cardinal for my mom.2 They both came out so beautiful and the shimmering of the drills are definitely worth the time it takes to do these kits. It not easy at times due to how my hands and fingers are with the neuropathy as they were literally numb in July of 2017 so causing issues at times. My cat has walked across my works in progress often so I cover them with a sheet of wax paper now. I’ve learned with each kit that gets done while I find new things to use and techniques to make it a smoother process.
