J.A.S. Cat Corner

Upon this page you’ll find all things cat related. I’ll give advice, recommendations, and anything else that comes from my personal experience with my cats. I’ve had 3 cats through the past 24 years that have had different personalities. This page is named after them with the first letters of their names. I hope you find this page useful.

Scratch Heaven

I found that one of the surefire good buys for any cat is a scratcher. I’ve never gone wrong with giving those to mine through the years. When I had Ariella, I got tired of the mess cardboard scratchers made so I went with the sisal variant ones. The downside of those was that they were very expensive to replace when they got worn out and also sometimes they wouldn’t be taken to as instantly as cardboard ones. I did end up returning to the cardboard that was a 100% winner for Ariella then Sabrina. Sabrina enjoys the shaped ones like waved, angled, and one in a circle shape bed. It’s best to try different ones on them to see what their ultimate favorites are and make sure the corrugated parts are tight together so it won’t break apart easily. Scratching poles are excellent when they have a toy attached to it so it gives more entertainment value to it. If the scratcher is nice enough to them then you’ll have no need for the catnip that they tend to supply with them. Happy scratch hunting.

Balls Galore

I found that the biggest hit to my cats have been balls for toys. They’ll bat them around the entire apartment where you’ll find them under furniture from out of control playing. The most successful ones to be played with are the jingle balls, light up balls, and tinsel balls. Cats just get fascinated by the lights and sounds the most. I even had a cat who played fetch with me whenever I would throw it to her. It’s a good way for them to get exercise as they run after the ball. They’re not the quietest toys by any means except for the tinsel balls. It gets even the laziest of cats up and going for awhile. I own a lazy lap cat right now so I know what works and what doesn’t.

Bestest Litter

We all know as cat owners that before we adopted our very first kitten or cat that we had to buy the essentials for them which included litter. I can’t begin to tell you how crucial it is to choose the right litter for your cats. It’s all about thinking of their health as a whole along with staying within your budget. There are lots of fancy litters out there now that detect your cat’s health problems which is good to have but it’s alot of money. If you have the income to get such litters then definitely look into them and make sure they are safe for your cat. I recommend World’s Best Cat Litter for its price and safe materials used. They only use pure corn to make their litter. It absorbs really well and does clump as you will want for scooping. I been using their litter for years now after realizing how unhealthy those very cheap clay litters are. My cat Ariella got diagnosed with feline asthma and I had to research what may irritate it. You’d be amazed how bad some litter material can be for cats. It just takes a short period of roaming a Google search to find these things out. World’s Best has a new product that you can sprinkle onto the litter that will detect health issues like the expensive litters that do. I’ve not tested it out yet and unsure if I will since it has weird ingredients in it. It doesn’t have any odor control so simply scoop the litter often and there will be no mega stink. After all what is more important, your cat’s health or have a fresh smelling home? I’d hope you’d pick the cat’s health being the priority. People who come to my home know I have a cat beforehand so them smelling cat litter like stinky is kinda expected a bit. I spritz air freshener when I expecting company though when my Sabrina isn’t nearby due to the contents of the spray being not good for cats. Happy shopping for the perfect litter whether you take my suggestion or not.
